On the first anniversary of the terror attacks, we are launching our new campaign: “Giving Hope”

One year ago, terrorists from Hamas and other armed groups attacked southern Israel. Today, we commemorate the more than 1,200 victims of the attacks and hold on to the hope that the 100 hostages still being held in Gaza will soon return home.

In this ongoing emergency, Netzwerk Israel supports the country’s democratic civil society with a new fundraising campaign under the title “Giving Hope.”

One year after October 7, the emergency situation for Israel’s civilian population remains severe: more than 100,000 Israelis are still internally displaced with no clear timeline for returning home. As a result of the terror attacks and the ongoing war, there is a great need for psychological support and trauma treatment. Across the country, people are living in fear following intensified rocket fire from Lebanon and a direct attack from Iran, or require psychological care and stabilization in the aftermath of terror. The risk of further regional escalation remains high.
In this situation, our network sends a message of solidarity to the people in Israel – from civil society to civil society. The new campaign raises funds for four projects:

  1. For AMCHA, providing psychosocial support for Holocaust survivors
  2. For Tzedek Centers, supporting people in cities like Sderot and Haifa that were attacked on October 7, 2023, or are currently under fire
  3. For the Jewish-Arab emergency aid center in Rahat, which continues to work for peaceful and cooperative coexistence
  4. *New*: For Hechalutz, supporting the rebuilding of community life in the devastated kibbutzim.

The idea: Answering questions, countering misinformation

The starting point for the network’s new fundraising campaign on social media is the many questions, comments, as well as misinformation and hate speech we have received in recent months. The campaign picks up on these and responds—for example, by highlighting the situation of 120,000 Holocaust survivors, many of whom require additional psychological support and stabilization after the terror attacks, or by shedding light on the plight of internally displaced people and residents of Israeli cities under fire, such as Sderot and Haifa. In this way, the campaign not only aims to raise funds but also to contribute to raising awareness about the situation of Israel’s democratic civil society.

You can find all posts from the current campaign on our channels on Facebook and Instagram.

New Project: Hechalutz – Rebuilding Community Life in the Kibbutzim

Kibbutz Be’eri, Kibbutz Kfar Aza, Kibbutz Nir Oz, Kibbutz Nir’im—these are all names we associate with the massacre of October 7 and the hostages abducted to Gaza. The destruction of the kibbutzim and their communities is a tragedy, and the affected villages will need many years to process what has happened and to rebuild their communal life.

Hechalutz – HaMidrasha at Oranim is an organization inspired by the Zionist pioneering movement and humanistic Judaism, committed to building a just, democratic, free, equal, and peaceful society. To achieve this, the organization offers educational and volunteer programs as well as leadership training for young adults in Israel.

In cooperation with the Kibbutz Movement, the largest umbrella organization of the kibbutzim in Israel, Hechalutz specifically supports young people in returning to the kibbutzim affected by October 7, 2023, providing them with counseling and further training opportunities.
